We, Filipinos, are known for our positive values: hospitality, being hard-working, and resilience which is our ability to face whatever challenges that life brings, all the while wearing a smile. On top of that, we are known to have a great passion for food, to the point of considering eating as a hobby.
Here is the list of foods to try in the Philippines:
1. Chicken Adobo
Adobo means “marinade” in Spanish. Taken from its meaning adobo is chicken, or could also be pork, marinated in a mixture of soy sauce and vinegar.

2. Pork Menudo
Menudo is a pork stew cooked in tomato based sauce with liver, potato and carrots.

3. Balut
It is a popular stree food originated in the Philippines but also found in other countries. Balut is an undeveloped duck embryo cooked and eaten directly from the eggshell.

4. Kare Kare
Kare kare is a stew with oxtail, ox tripes, lots of vegetables, which is flavoured with ground roasted peanuts, onions and garlic.

5. Maja Blanca
A Filipino pudding dessert with corn kernels. It is more exciting to eat if topped with roasted shredded coconut.

6. Sinigang
Sinigang is another popular Filipino stew. It is meat-based and is sour and savoury in flavour. Sinigang usually uses tamarind (sampalok) as the souring agent.

7. Lechon
It is literally an entire young pig that has been fed on just its mother’s milk (the word for milk in Spanish is leche), which is roasted over charcoal for many hours.

8. Leche Flan
The Filipino version of Creme Caramel. It is made up of eggs and cream. This is simply heavenly.

9. Halo halo
Halo Halo means ‘mixed together’ in Tagalog. It is served in a glass containing ice shavings, evaporated milk and various small chunks of yummy goodies all mixed in together.

10. Lechon Kawali
A crunchy pork belly dish eaten with pork gravy. It’s like chicharrones with meat.
